Bad Rendering Engines Can Still Be Useful

While these renders aren’t anything I’d flip out over in terms of how they’d stack up to the output of modern engines, I still like the compositions.

A few of my old 3D scenes still load without crashing this software (ancient app, missing plugins, new OS—you know how it goes), so I felt like revisiting and revising what I can in order to get new images that are larger than the usual 720 x 486 fare of the past. Nostalgia took its toll, and along the way, I changed some textures, lighting and cameras, hopefully making things better.

Maybe these will serve as inspiration to go on and realize them as pen and ink drawings. I can imagine this set rendered in a stippling technique at a large scale. After that, I might scan them and downsize for a unique printing opportunity.
